Toronto Photographer | Finding the lost files… Band Photography BTS
Years ago I was living in Saint John, NB and a friend had booked me for a photography session for his band. Of course I jumped at the chance knowing the different looks and styles they may be interested in and game to try something different than the existing band shots from around the area. The only small issue, the drive - 250km+ each way… not a huge issue at all as I did the drive often.
Now day of the session arrived and you couldn’t ask for worse weather - well, I guess you could if it was winter. It was none-stop rain, but we had a great great location lined up. One of the band members ran a professional plant nursery and had an empty greenhouse. AWESOME! Power, space, and it was dry… what else could we ask for?
I ended up running two lights mostly as well as a fog machine, because I believe most bands would walk around life with a fog machine as atmosphere wherever they go if they could. The haze left by the fog worked well with the gelled light in the back. The front was a 7’ parabolic umbrella raised high and feathering down on the front…
I was recently going through some bins and found an old GoPro which had a card in it, so I had to check to see what it was. It was the behind-the-scenes of the set - I couldn’t be more excited since I don’t often get a chance to get BTS content. It isn’t the best cinematography, but it was a special find… I hope you enjoy the quick video I put together with it.
