Toronto Photographer | ANTI-SOCIAL MEDIA
Expanding on my simplification methods and making life better, I made the choice to leave main-stream social media platforms. Odd that a marketer and photographer would choose to leave platforms, so many people scream are “MUST HAVES”. I don’t agree. I choose to go where my real clients are and go direct.
I’m still online, but not on facebook or instagram. After a poor experience that left me gutted on that platform (same ownership so same platform), I decided it was best to abandon that channel for other more productive options. When I review all the different posts other people are doing, it is all the same - the content follows the content, click-bate options follow click-bate options. A great method of madness I’m reminded of in this instance is, “When you see what everyone else is doing, do the opposite.”
With new found focus, and being present during conversations and life in general instead of being tied to updates and going-ons… I’m happier, more productive and driving more people to my site and getting more exposure because of it - analytics are growing each day for my site with more traffic.
Do you need to be on mainstream social media outlets for you to grow? If that is where your clients are then sure, but if you are just wasting time and effort growing a number that isn’t engaged, then no. All the marketers may say otherwise, but that is just because it is an easy sell to be on them. I can easily buy followers and inflate numbers that are impressive to several, but that still doesn’t drive engagement or business.
Having only left those channels recently, I can’t say whether or not I will continue on this path, but for now it is certainly looking promising.
