Toronto Photographer | THE LONG WALK Travel Photography
I started travelling later in life, only taking my first proper international travel at 30. I travelled throughout Canada and the US up to then, but that is all relatively the same. The first time being lost in translation was during my 30th year, and it was to another relatively safe for a first time travel experience – The Netherlands. During the trip, I didn't really appreciate the experience. I was going through things in my personal life that maybe didn't allow me to really open up and enjoy it. Looking back, I can say it was a perfect trip. That first experience has kicked off several otherworldly adventures I've been fortunate enough to take. The Long Walk is not the 20km average per day on those adventures but my life process of finding my way.
Life since lockdowns hasn't really allowed for the traditional long walks, so finding other paths and areas to explore beyond my every day is essential. Every day is spent furthering my education, finding inspiration, spending time with family, and being thankful my situation is what it is. As things continue, it continues to be more and more critical for me to take care of myself mentally, so a step back from what I've been focused on for a while as needed. Photographing people in a studio setting is no longer a focus. It is still a great experience, and I'll continue to make images with great people), but instead, I hope to expand on "the long walk".
For the past while, I've been going through travel images I have made–reliving memories. If I can't travel in person, I can travel in my mind and relive those experiences with my wife. Our last adventure was with our 8-month-old daughter, and revisiting those images are some of the best laughs and recharge my spirit. Using that positivity, the revisits of the previous adventures lead to more colour edits, producing actual prints for hanging on the walls. Yes, people still print their work (more people should do it).
I look forward to continuing "the long walk" with family and friends for years to come.
