Toronto Photographer | But, I’m a Natural Light Photographer

It is no secret I love using light to make images with people. Indoors, outdoors, morning, noon and night… I love it all. I own it, I admit my editing I embrace the process of making an image. Then, there are those who claim to be natural light shooters (I don’t like the term shooter, so will change to image maker).

These are the people who go out of their way to share they use natural light at any point they can - they’re the vegans of the photography world (love all my vegan friends). GREAT! No problem - use natural light embrace it do whatever it is that makes you happy. Don’t then proceed to edit it by recovering the shadows, dodge and burning to make it look lit and polished because that is not natural light… it is available light with post processing. Even by adding a reflector whether it is added by you using the reflections of a white wall, it is still available light. Natural light varies minute to minute and can be literally under the sun, stars, or moon… it is making the image the best you can with no added or modified process on set or in the computer. Lots of great images are made this way, but don’t confuse the two…

Rant over…

Cheers!
